Saturday, we went to La Lucha.
It was hot, steamy, packed and totally fucking awesome! There were 30 wrestlers on the LXN roster, fighting on a Royal Rumble type of thing… where once the initial two dudes got it on, they had, every two minutes, another wrestler joining the fight.
The cool thing about this is that the LXN just got a lot of new fighters, from another league that went down or something.
And everyone and their freaking aunt were there. EVERYONE! We managed to score ring side tickets -VIPs if you ask at the box office- early on, but decided to wait till the line got shorter to walk in. Sadly, by the time we did, there were no more chairs available, so we had to haggle and steal and outsmart people whenever a wrestler would get thrown over to the audience -a big thing here in Extreme Panamanian Wrestling- and secure some seating arrangements.
I must be honest here and let you know that i am not a big fan of wrestling. When i was a kid i watched the WWF on tv every sunday, like any other kid my age… but i knew back then that to be a big show. But going to the Lucha here, you get caught on the popular euphoria of the place. The matches are not that important, but the actual shouting, and screaming and yelling: an excellent place to let you blow steam and enjoy with your friends while some dudes deck i out in front of you.
Kinda makes you understand what was it like to go to the Roman Coliseum back then…
