There is a HUGE chance Scott Pilgrim vs The World will not be shown in theaters here in Panama City, Panama.

Years might pass, and we might have to buy a pirate copy outta street vendor in a stoplight, or download it from the web, and experience this ODE to our generation in a small computer screen, in a shitty hand-held cam definition on a cold Sunday afternoon.

Legend has it, that back in 1889, a small Hanafuda Playing Card Company was founded. And this small Company, would eventually grow to become one of the most ginormous and successful Companies the world has ever seen.

Over 120 years ago, NINTENDO was founded in Japan, and in honor of the company that has helped shaped not only my childhood, but countless others… we decided to create The N! Day.

I am not a big fan of wrestling. Hell, I am not a wrestling fan at all. When I was a wee lad, I would watch the WWF dubbed re-runs they showed on national TV. I would even watch G.L.O.W., fer Christ-Sake! But as i grew up, my love for staged and choreographed fights lost it’s appeal, and I moved on to better things: Comics.

A good friend of mine is still, at his 30+ years of age, a big wrestling fan, and he would tell me the stories of what went on the then brand new Panamanian EXTREME League. I was unimpressed, and quite uninterested… until one day, out of boredom i decided to go to this LXN event called The Festival of Chairs.

That was a year ago… and although I am still not a big fan of wrestling I can say that if i have missed one or two LXN events since then, I would be lying. I was hooked!

But I was not hooked on the wrestling part, no. I was hooked on the contagious general euphoria of the whole event; the overall bloodlust that permeates the air… and when you see an old lady, who could be your granny, shouting and screaming at the wrestlers, well, you MUST follow suit and do as the Romans do.

Last night was this year’s Chair Festival. I went there and had a friggin’ blast! Hell, I even scored a free churro from the churro lady.

The bill was action packed with nonstop fights. Sadly it started almost two hours late, circa 9:30 PM. I was there since 7:00 PM and the torrential rains that raged on all over the city last night, did little to quell the fans and their enthusiasm: the place was jam packed.

Last night, as i was getting ready to go home and work on the comic, after a long day of Corporate Monkeying, it started to rain.

It rained really, REALLY hard. Almost as hard as a Tropical Typhoon, which is to say it rained as usual here. I was stuck here at work… when my good friend The Astro Lander rescued me, like a good well timed Deus Ex Machina!

We headed straight to the Atlapa Convention Center, and into the Panamanian Book Fair.

This is a yearly event where all the bookstores and book distributors get together to peddle their wares and sell all those books they never sold during the last year.

Not a shabby deal, if you ask me… specially in a country where people “don’t read” is the norm.

But, the National Book Chamber, and a ton of local authors are changing that… so “fuck yeah!” for the Book Fair. Here, have some metal horns: \m/

While there we ran into some up and coming creators like Rob Rivera and Lili Mendoza, and some old familiar faces like Niko, Donny and Pablo, who has his own blog at “Continue Yes/No?”

We had a nice time, digging around for that one elusive stand that is rumored to sell comics.

And we found it! And it was awesome! If not, just ask Rob… look at him in the pic right there. That was NOT staged. He is, indeed, flippin out.

I will go back there, this Saturday… as i wanna see a few panels and maybe even get me some of those One Dola’ Comics.

Last night, we had an impromptu meeting with Patsy Barba, winner of our 4th Anniversary Giveaway Extravaganza!

Would you believe this girl flew all the way from MEXICO to pick up her prizes? Well, she surely did, dear reader! And not only that!

In the true spirit of intercultural relationships, ethical dilemmas and horse races… she brought some presents of her own. As a token gesture, she brought us a small Katrina -or Dia de los Muertos Skull- and in order to further the nonsense and ferocious vociferation to take place, at least once a month -at la lucha, she got us a Rey Misterio mask.

And it is AWESOME!

Sadly, as i’m super swamped with work this last week and such, i am posting this form work; ergo no pics for that…

Anyhow, CONGRATULATIONS once again to Patsy Barba, who got herself a Red d20, a Zelda Keychain, an original Sketch by yours truly, a duo pack of DC Comics Action Figures, and the COLORADOS and AUSTIN TV cd’s.

One day… we are all gonna die.

The band will keep on playing… the crowds will still cheer on… and you will fade away, first physically and then as a memory, as a half remembered dream.

However, in that one instant before you shed your mortal coil, you get to relieve it all once again.  Hey, who’s to say we are not reliving it as we speak? As I type this? As you read it? As we both breathe.

I found this video thanks to comics guru Scott McCloud and his Twitter Feed. He advices to watch it, at least twice; i’m gonna go one step further and share it with you all here.

This is what i imagine we see, as we exhale that one last breath… and if i ever get to meet an alien, this is what i would show ‘em when they ask me what was life for us humans, before they showed up.
